about

Dropping two releases on Black Acre, Evadney’s music can be described as electronic, poetic, melancholic, cinematic, leftfield and pop. The Brighton-based singer grew up in a large Caribbean family with a Jamaican mother and Barbadian father, influenced by old school soca and calypso tunes, as well as artists like Kate Bush, Bjork and Grace Jones. Earning an MA in Music Composition at Goldsmiths University, Evadney studied the likes of John Cale, Stockhausen and Musique concrete. He now splits his time between making music, working at a charity organization and DJing at the weekends.

Receiving contrasting remixes from three excellent artists, the first to remix Evadney’s latest release on Black Acre is Local Action’s India Jordan - a hot prospect having netted solid reviews from The Guardian
and Resident Advisor, not to mention DJ support from Caribou and Jacques Green. Her take on ‘Anchor Me’ incorporates pitter-patter drums, echoing synths and murky sub-bass as Evadney’s vocals are looped
in mesmerizing fashion.

Taking things into downtempo territories, award winning avant-garde electronic music producer Elisa Hewitt then tackles the same track bringing her own ethereal aesthetic – chopping up the original’s instrumentation and blending textures together to generate serene harmonies for a truly stunning rendition.

Tying it all together, Suitman Jungle – the suit wearing percussionist who combines a standing drum kit with electronic hardware – creates a twisted version of ‘I Think Of Being In Love’. Ebbing in slowly, an intricate rhythm arrives just after the one-minute mark whilst trippy effects operate throughout and the
result is mind-blowing.
